Do You Know If This Hotel Is Pager Friendly?

If you follow us on Facebook, then you are probably aware of the fact that Mrs. Albright and I took a trip to Vegas with one of my high school girlfriends.  No husbands.  No kids.  Heck yeah!
It was crazy fun. I would tell you all about it, but then I'd have to kill you.
If I didn't leave a bit of mystery, it wouldn't hold all the magic of Vegas, right? I will tell you this - the last time I slept this little was when I had a newborn.
We did manage to get this one very tame picture by a fountain at the Venetian.

We posed for funny pictures.

I won free shots for Mrs. Albright by answering TV theme song trivia.

We made lots of new friends.

I saw one of my favorite bands.

My husband is a tad bit embarrassed that this guy knows me when we visit Vegas.

And I even sang karaoke with another band friend.

Mrs. Albright will be posting more about our trip later this week. If she doesn't mention a need for a babysitter, then she is lying. I can't wait to head back to Vegas with these girls next July!

Connected

We all have friends from different walks of life, but there is always something special about people who knew you way back when.  They know who you were and who you are.


At least once a year, I try to get together with some of these girls to reconnect.  Some of our friends were unable to join us, so... darn... we will need to plan another trip!

Our group usually meets up in our hometown, Fort Worth.  This year, we decided to go to Napa Valley in California and it was deeeeeeelightful!  Kudos to Jen who made all of the arrangements for our trip and even got us some freebies thrown in.

We went to the smaller boutique wineries.  These were really fun because their wines are not available here in Okeelahoma.

At J Vineyards & Winery we went on a behind the scenes tour.  This is where I figured out why I like wine.  See those brown bags stacked on the left?  That's sugar.

Besides sampling wines (yes, sampling - not chugging!) we snacked and ate and ate and snacked.  

Well, most of us anyway...

I loved learning what specific foods were paired with which wines.

Napa is a very calm and reserved area, but we still had plenty of time to be silly.

Because - why not?

Maybe next time we will be able to agree on the hotel room temperature.

But, I doubt it.

Fun fact - The 2012 Napa wines are expected to be phenomenal.  Be looking for them when they hit the shelves!

Educated about wine like...

(Mis)Communication

One of the gals from the RHOK posted this on our Facebook page recently and I really had a chuckle over it.

Facebook has been way too fun for me.  It has made it too easy for me to share laughs with 800 of my closest friends over the past few years.  But are we really communicating with each other?

I have one friend who isn't allowed to be my Facebook friend because his wife has never met me.  I don't have a problem with that, but I find it odd since I never dated him and he lives 2000 miles away.  Either way, it works for them.  Or does it...
You see, the funny thing is that we talk to each other using Words With Friends.  This makes things complicated.
I wanted to tell my friend that I was having a fun girls trip to Vegas so I sent a message through our current game.  He had a little bit of trouble with it.

Since it has been 20 years or so since we hung out, it made sense that he didn't remember who my friend Leslie was.  Conversing by typing on my cell isn't my favorite so I tried to indicate that she was one of my best friends from high school by typing "bf."
You can see how that went over.

And then came the clarification and the AHA(!) moment.

I seriously recommend typing carefully.

We didn't share a hooker, but we danced. And danced. And danced.

The Busy Housewife

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of non-stop activity for this housewife. I went with some girlfriends for a weekend getaway and then Labor Day weekend our family went with some friends to Lake of the Ozarks for a fun-filled weekend. In the middle of all that I've helped a dear friend and her girls deal with some horrific family issues. I'm so glad I (and my family) can be there for them. They have a long road ahead. 

Some super great girlfriends - who make me laugh so hard I feel like I'm getting a workout. 

Loaded down and headed for the hills of Missouri to this wonderful place.....

My husband didn't really dig when all of us girls sang in the car (he had on headphones that weren't even plugged in just trying to block the noise!!) What a sport! ;)  He may or may not have put those on whenever I started teaching the girls the song On Top Of Spaghetti.....

The last night of the Labor Day weekend, the resort goes all out with the best fireworks show I've ever seen. They also have a D.J. playing dance music so you can dance with your kids. It really is just an incredible night of family fun. Here are a few of my favorite videos:

My little one also started playing soccer for the first time. They've had two practices and a game. They need more practice is all I'm sayin'...  But, I was the loudest mamma on the sidelines. Of course, those of you who know me personally, this comes as no surprise. I couldn't be more proud of how well she did, especially considering she hasn't ever played before. I've already got our goals set up in the backyard so we can do lots of practicing at home. No, I'm not competitive at all. I don't care if they don't keep score, I do. Ha!
