McLinky Monday - Who Am I?

The RHOK

So, who are you?

Not like in a philosophical sense...

Not like what's your name or your occupation...

or whether you're a mom or dad...or a wife or husband.

I'm talking about who are you as a blogger.

Have you ever looked at your blogging stats?  Well, let me tell you, they are a wealth of information.  You can find out how many views your blog has in a day (a week, a month, etc.), the most viewed posts, and traffic sources.

I find that last one very interesting.

If you go to your "Stats" tab (from your Blogger Dashboard, if you use Blogger.  I'm not sure how to do this from Wordpress or other formats), you can click on "Traffic Sources" and down at the bottom it will give you the top ten "Search Keywords"...top 10 keywords that bring people to your blog.

For instance, here are the top ten words from our RHOK blog:

1.   real housewives of oklahoma 285 (nice to know we're making a name for ourselves!)
2.   tow truck 121 (because "tow truck" is so synonymous with "housewife")
3.   housewives 46 (much better)
4.   garage door makeover 44
5.   the real housewives of oklahoma 42 (yep, that's us!)
6.   cars tow truck 37 (don't you think of the RHOK when you think of tow trucks?)
7.   real housewives 29 (REAL housewives...not fake ones)
8.   real housewives costume 26 (REAL housewives who wear costumes)
9.   housewives of oklahoma 19 (and yes, we live in Oklahoma)
10. bubies 16 (is this bubies or babies or boobies?...what's bubies?)

It's kind of interesting, huh?

I think it helps us know what our readers want...what they visit our page looking for.  Apparently, here at the RHOK we just need to keep talking about ourselves...and tow trucks...and "bubies".  OK, so it may not be an accurate account of your viewership, but it's still fun to look at!

So, what's your top ten??

Also, tell us what your most viewed post is!  Maybe we missed it?!  If it's the one that people have read the most, we NEED to read it too!  So, link that baby up!

(FYI - just go back to your "Stats" tab...then to "Posts"...be sure you've clicked on "all time" and there at the top will be your most viewed post)

The most viewed post here at The RHOK was brought to us by Mrs. Nesbitt, who is a retired Housewife...it's titled Wisdom (by way of a cartoon tow truck)...yep, we have her to thank for all of those people who search "tow truck" and end up at The RHOK! {click title to read post}

You know the drill...

MckLinky Monday ~ Treasures

I can't tell you how excited I am to share with you a few of my greatest treasures for today's MckLinky Monday. Most of them were things that belonged to my grandmother and for that reason hold such a special place in my heart. You see, being the only granddaughter (on both sides of the family) I was a bit spoiled by my grandmother. She loved me (and the boys, I guess) like no other. She was definitely old school and loved Jesus with all her heart. I learned much from her during my 19 years that I had her. There's not a day goes by that I don't miss her or wish she could have met my wonderful husband and daughters.

So, for today's MckLinky, I want you to share some thing(s) that you consider treasures. I am looking forward to seeing and reading about what you hold dear.

The RHOK

I used to love playing at Grandmother and Gramps' house. I was known to be a snoop. I used to go off to the bedrooms and pilfer through all her closets and drawers looking through pictures and memorabilia. One thing I always wanted was her cedar chest to use as my hope chest. When she passed away in 1989 my grandfather gave that chest to me along with some other items.

They kept the original receipt for it inside the chest. It was bought in 1955 for $50.95. Notice on the receipt that tax was ONLY $1.00.

Let's take a quick peek inside....

The first thing you see is probably the Holly Hobby quilt. That was made for me by my grandmother.

Along with the chest my grandfather gave me my grandmother's high school and college diplomas, teaching certificates and awards. I even have her college class ring. She actually lost it at some point in life and many, many years later someone found it and went through all kinds of hoops to find its original owner.

This is an award given to her for having her children present and on-time at school every day that year. Our schools certainly don't do that anymore.. honor the mother.

I also found in there a record of her employment in some of the rural schools where she taught. Notice what she made in 1932-33(at the bottom) and then what she made in 1942-43.

I carried this handkerchief, that belonged to her, when I got married.

Inside my chest I also have a Bible that belonged to my dad. I'm thankful to say that he is still alive; he just gave me the Bible to keep because it was so worn that he needed to get a new one. I love that he wore that Bible out.

I also keep pictures, cards, and school papers and documents in my chest. It was fun rereading the papers I wrote in college and seeing what the teachers wrote on them.

My first swimsuit can also be found in my chest.

The first flowers my husband gave to me back in 1993....

Last, but not least, I found this naked lady in the bottom. She is a 1966 Barbie; that means she was mine from childhood. I hope you don't find her nakedness offensive. =)

I hope you have as much fun showcasing your treasures as I did showcasing mine. It brought back some very sweet memories.

MckLinky Monday - Cooking is such a CROCK

circa 2009... Mrs. Priss and friend Amy
Recently, I spent the day with Amy from Land of Fluff.  She was nice enough to take this temporarily crippled gal out for some shopping and lunch.  Isn't that great?  Um... you knew I was down and out from shoulder surgery, right?

Apparently, I am not superwoman and will not heal any faster than they said I would.
Dang it.
And 6 weeks out, I am still not allowed to drive.
Double dang it.

While we were out, we started talking about cooking.  When it comes to cooking, Amy knows her way around a kitchen.  I was shocked to hear her say she never uses her crock pot.  Say WHAT?  This busy mom of three girls does not have any good crock pot recipes.  We need to fix this immediately.  Crock pot meals can be delicious and such a time saver.  There's nothing sweeter than returning from a busy day and smelling a tasty dinner.

WAIT A MINUTE...
so THIS is what it's like to be the Doc...

I'm not going to pretend to be a crock pot genius, but I do have several standbys in this area.  Of all the things I can make in the crock pot, there is only one that the Doc repeatedly requests.  He's a picky eater, so there aren't many requests from my man.

Here is Doc's favorite crock pot dinner.  Ironically, it is a soup.  The Doc hates soup.  Weird, huh?  Let me throw you a real curve ball here... he also hates onions.  Ha ha ho ho.  Snuck that one in on him.

Tamale Soup
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
2 T oil
1 cup frozen corn
2 cups water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 can pinto beans (16 oz)
1 T chili powder
1 t cumin
Salt & Pepper to taste
10 tamales, shucked & quartered
(my mom uses the frozen ones but I use canned)

In a skillet, brown beef, onion & green pepper in oil until browned.  In a crock pot, combine beef mixture, corn, water, and bouillon cubes.  Add pinto beans, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper.  Cook on low in crock pot for 6-8 hours.  About 30 minutes prior to serving, add tamale chunks and heat thoroughly.  Do not cook tamales too long as they will cook apart.  Serve with cornbread.

And now it's your turn.
Post your own favorite crock pot recipe on your blog and link to us to share!  Be sure to grab our button and link back to us in your post to help us spread the word.

If you don't have a blog, feel free to tell us about your recipe in the comments (assuming there's room).

The RHOK
So, Amy... this one's for you.
Happy Cooking!!

MckLinky Monday ~ One Tank Road Trips

So with Spring Break right around the corner we are curious to know places you love to visit that you don't need 10 days or lots of cash. What are your fav destinations that are easy to get to, within a short drive (within one tank of gas), full of fun and charm.
What is your favorite one tank road trip?
My family loves to road trip. We have a lil' place about an hour and a half away we like to visit called, Pops. They serve over 500 different sodas. Okies call Soda, "Pop", pronounced "pawp". So now you understand the name.  Not only do they have super soda, they have incredible burgers. For our family that's a great reason for a road trip!
Pops is a gas station, landmark, soda fountain, restaurant and Route 66 shop. It has a 66 foot soda bottle out front that lights up at sunset. You can't miss it!

Pops is a really unusual spot on Route 66. It's ultra modern with a cool, retro, soda fountain vibe.
They display all the different pop they sell on glass shelves in the windows. It's brilliant, colorful and fun!

The kiddos were in pop heaven!

We shared a dessert. The picture speaks for itself...

This was all that was left...

You can fill up your own 6 pack of soda from their stock of unusual pop. They carry NeHi, Red Barn Rootbeer, Mexican Coke, Crush, and so much more!

We had a great time driving down Route 66. It was a fun lil' get away without a lot of planning or expense.
There are so many fun places to visit in Oklahoma! What cool landmarks do you have in your area?
"Route 66 has held a special place in the American consciousness from its beginning.
The road is uniquely American. There are a thousand stories of hope, heartbreak, love,
hate, starting over, and new dreams found along the next
bend of the highway we call the Mother Road. "

Tell us, what is your favorite lil' Road Trip? Link up with us and share one or some of your favorite places to visit close to your home.

MckLinky Monday-Top 5 Pet Peeves!

Today's MckLinky Monday is a topic that EVERYONE can relate to--Pet Peeves.  We all have them.  And to be honest, we all probably have more than 5 but I'll try my best to keep it at that instead of listing all 68 of mine.  You are welcome.

{worth noting are some that barely missed the cut: noisy eaters, best friend turned serial killer, invasion of personal space, jerks who take up two parking places, spit talkers, improper knife users, public nose pickers, conspiracy theories, and people who sneeze/cough without covering their mouth.}

1. Word verification/Non-comment bloggers*.  {Yes, I'm putting two together because they both have to do with blogging, m'kay?}.
  A) I totally get why people have the word verification on their account.  I did too for a while but it's SOOOO annoying!  Since I've taken mine off (well over a year ago) I have only had one spam message.  ONE! And the verifications that I really hate are the sneaky ones that pop up after I go to post my comment.
  B) There is nothing that I love to do more than responding to my readers after they have left me a super sweet comment but when you don't have your email enabled, guess what?  I can't respond and I REALLY REALLY want to respond!  It's a simple fix for anyone posting on blogger.  Here it is:
Click on your DASHBOARD link at the top right.
Click on EDIT PROFILE.
Put a check mark next to "Show my email address".
Scroll to the bottom and click SAVE.  And you're all set!
*Mamarazzi is starting a new revolution about this.  Click HERE to find out more.

2.  Facebook status messages.  I have given up my love affair with facebook for the moment.  Wanna know why?  Some people update their status message every.flippin'.hour and I'm so OVER IT. I don't care that you're constipated.  I don't care that you just just found a dried up booger on your bedroom wall.  I don't care that your dog just made a big shadoobie on your brand new rug. {Note: all of these are true updates and from the same person on the same day I KID YOU NOT.} I love to read updates because I'm a stalker nosey-nelly like that but please, for the love of baby Jesus, don't update every hour.  I will de-friend you.

3.  Debbie Downers. They are all around us: at work, at church, in our personal life, on facebook and in the blogging world.  And yes, every once in a while, we all get down and depressed and need to get it off your chest to feel better. I get that.  I really do.  But do you have to be a Debbie Downer every single day?  Two days out of seven?  I can handle that. Six days out of seven?  You need improvement.Try to put a positive spin on the situation once in a while.  Try to talk about what's GOOD in your life. Try "pretending" to be happy.  Don't be THAT girl.  It just beats us down and makes us want to have a drink...or ten. I know some of you will agree.  {Please agree.} And quit thinking that this one is about you.  It's not.  I promise.

4. Talking during a movie.  This will only make me want to throw my popcorn and/or Coke in your face and one day, when my girlballs are bigger, I will seriously do this because I just paid $10 freakin' dollars to see a movie and the last thing I want to hear is you talking back to the screen, talking to your friend OUT LOUD, or talking on your cell phone (which probably rang since you didn't remember to turn it on silent) {Hello long-winded run-on sentence.}

5. Texting while driving.  I'm sure you are guilty of this.  I am too.  But I can't tell you how many times I've hurriedly passed someone on the highway who was swerving only to see that they weren't drunk like I thought; they are looking down to TEXT.  Are you kidding me?  Is it really that important? {I have totally called 3-1-1 on some peeps} What's even scarier is seeing a teenager do this.  Teenagers aren't great drivers anyway and now we add texting into the mix. Ok, I need to be Debbie Downer for just a second--SOME PEOPLE DIE FROM TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. If it's not them that dies, it could be them killing someone else. Once you've had this happen to someone you love, I promise you won't want to text while driving anymore. {Ok, Debbie Downer is o-u-t.}

So, those are my top 5 Pet Peeves and it only took me 13 days to narrow the list down.  What are YOUR top 5 pet peeves?  List them in the comments (where we always comment back) or even better...LINK UP! It makes us me feel loved. Kthanks.

XOXO,
Mrs. Coco

Keepin' it real like...

McLinky Monday - 10 Things You Can't Live Without

Today on McLinky Monday, I would like to know what 10 things you absolutely can't (or at least wouldn't want to) live without and why.

I'm talking things...not people, your family, kids, the pope, etc.blah.blah.blah.

I'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours.

1. Starbucks.  "What is your drug of choice?  Starbucks for 1000, Alex."

2. Books are one of my top favorite things and my Kindle is my newest method of reading.  I love it.  What a dull, boring, black and white world this would be without books. I told a friend the other day that I'm such a daydreamer and books give me something to daydream about. They fuel my imagination. They're educational...OK OK, I'm probably not getting much smarter from the material I'm reading.  I'm learning things about sparkly vampires and how to survive in the Hunger Games...and that I want Katniss to be my BFF.  BUT, they are an escape from reality and don't we all need an escape from reality from time to time?!

3. iPhone...hello! What did I do without this device? I mean what other thing can you talk, text, e-mail, look up a recipe, watch a movie, listen to music, check the weather, read Pop Sugar, check your facebook page, post a twit/twat/tweet, get directions to Japan, reserve a movie at Redbox, find a restaurant, make a list, post a blog, read a book, play a game, get angry at birds, and surf the internet on? That's really just scratching the surface of all the things it's capable of. I ♥ my iPhone.

Impulsive, did you find that number for iPhone Anonymous?

4. My Camera. It goes everywhere with me.

5. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is my favorite lipstick. I've worn it since I was 16 years old. If they ever quit making it, I'll freak out.  For reals. It goes on so smooth and it's the perfect shade. It goes with almost everything. I love it!

6. Twilight/Edward/Rob...I'm grouping them together, because this is my list and I can do whatever I want.  I know this may sound crazy, but now that I know about Edward, I wouldn't want to live without him. I think Stephenie Meyer is one of the coolest people on earth. Her dreams and imagination are what brought Edward and Bella into existence. I'm a hopeless romantic, and so the idea that the impossible love is possible after all...well, I think it's wonderful.  Is that the most freakin' sappiest answer you've ever heard??  Geez.  OK, the idea of Edward is hott hott hott, and I was in love with him before a famous face was ever assigned to play him.  But truthfully I'm head-over-heals for Rob.  I guess I should be thankful to Steph for dreaming up Edward...Summitt for picking up the books to make them into movies...Summitt again for picking Cathy Hardy for the director...Cathy Hardy for casting KStew as Bella...and KStew for having chemistry with Rob.

Oh, and I would also like to add Pocket Edward...my many Pocket Edwards.  I usually have at least one accompanying me at all times.

7. GNOs help my sanity.
Before making out with Pocket Momma on our last outting, Pocket Edward made out with a cupcake.
There's no judgement here.
8. Proactive.  It keeps my puberty-style acne in check.

9. Blogger. I love it.  It's good.  It makes me happy.  I have a small captive audience.

10. Gossip magazines. Occasionally, my BFFs forget to text me and give me the 411, so I have to stalk them keep up with them through gossip mags.  Rob will drop me subliminal messages every once in a while.  It's fun to see them in real life situations. I do feel sorry for them at times. I wouldn't want my life to be so public, but they're so gosh darn entertaining. Instead of grabbing a Snickers or M&Ms while waiting to checkout at Hell-Mart, I'll grab a People or US...it's my treat.  I can't leave without one...or two.

So, what are 10 things you can't (or wouldn't want to) live without?

You know the drill...

MckLinky Monday ~ 5 Things You Can't Do Anymore

Being in my forties has brought many new realizations. Although I may feel like I'm in my early twenties, okay, early thirties, my body and the mirror say otherwise.

I get a little freaked out at times (See?! I still say the word freak. Women in their forties don't talk like that, do they!?) I won't lie. It concerns me that I'm getting wrinkles. It concerns me that my hip hurts too badly for me to sit crisscross-applesauce on the floor anymore.

So, for this weeks' MckLinky Monday I want to know 5 things you can't do anymore. And, it doesn't have to be related to your age that you can't do them anymore. It's just that you can't or don't do them for some reason or another.

The RHOK

Here are my 5:

Since the birth of my first child I've been extremely scared of heights. The older I get, the more scared I am. Who take care of my babies if my car went flying off the track?!

I'm no longer able to smoke while I ride my bike in my underwear. But, by golly, back in the day, I put these gals to shame! I kid, I kid. Seriously, though, I don't ride a bike anymore. It has to do with my fear of heights. Crazy, I know!

And, do you know what else my fear of heights has effected?

Roller Skating! I don't know if it's because I'm so tall (the height thing again), or the fact that the last time I went I fell and am certain I got a concussion, but I'm now kind of scared of roller skating. My daughter is having a skating party in a couple of weeks. If I do skate, I'll be sure to have my husband take a picture so I can show you. You can bet your sweet tea that I'll want some kudos for it. And, for the record, I used to be a fairly decent skater. I certainly could do what they were doing in the picture, so it pains me that I just don't feel comfortable on skates anymore.

I also can not drive a car without my seat belt. I know it's the law, but even if the law were to suddenly change, I couldn't stop wearing it. I'm amazed at the people who drive without their seat belt, or worse, let their kids be unrestrained in the car. I've been known to curse kindly tell people to pull their heads outta their a$$ buckle up their children.

Okay, that was four. I'm having difficulty coming up with one more thing I really can't do anymore. I guess I could do them, but for some reason or another, I'm not comfortable doing them.

Oh, I thought of the last one:

As much as I'd truly love to play basketball again, I know I would only disappoint myself. In my head, I still remember how fun and easy basketball was for me. I'd love to relive that by playing on old lady team. Dang! Look at how thin my legs were! It sort of sucks getting old. Do older women say sucks?!

Now, it's your turn. Go blog about 5 things you can't do anymore and then hurry back here and link up with the housewives for MckLinky Monday. We'll be around to harass ya later! And, would you be so kind as to visit some of the others who link up as well? Thanks so much.

Here's the rules:
1. Answer the question on your blog (or in the comments sections if you haven't a blog).

2. If you answer the question on your blog, add your name to MckLinky so that we all can discover the brilliance that is your mind.

3. Grab our button from the sidebar and post it either in your reply post or on your blog.
