The Very Personal Details Of My Text Life

Today we're going to get a little personal.
We're going to address my text life.

But before we get into my own personal text life, I'll share some of my son Michael's text life.
Is that legal?
He's only thirteen...

Around here we have interesting text lives.  When I quizzed the other housewives before, I discovered this was truly a unique thing for my family.
Lucky me.

My son Michael shows his amazing communication skills through his text life.

Michael answers Aunt Becki's question with the obvious.
So helpful.

Communicating with Aunt Terri (that's a video of him blowing a raspberry at her)

We had a little talk about communicating with strangers when I saw this.
From me to Michael.
He never signed up.

I think we can all see why Michael's family members have quit trying to talk to him through texting.

Here are some snippets from my phone over the last two months.
I love telling the Doc how my day is going.
He always offers up encouragement.
And no, the poop was not mine.

I have no idea what these are about.

We're going to work on the Doc's Bible interpreting skills.

This is not from the House of Priss.
My friend and her husband communicate really well, too.

One of my many daily invitations.

Another version.

Apparently, Jacob had my phone for this one.

Sometimes the best response is no response.
This conversation ended here.
He says I'm no fun.
Also not from the House of Priss.
Hard to believe since it involves poo.
Too funny not to share.
Yup.
This text is from last week.
I stayed up and watched a movie I could care less about.
Thanks for the warning, Doc.

This one is my favorite.  It highlights a special moment in my life.
It shows that the Doc actually does know how to use a calendar.

And just so you know, I would never share these if they were serious.
This is Doc's idea of funny.
Not that he wouldn't take me up on it if I took him seriously.

Now it's your turn.

Does your special someone send you funny texts?

(Mis)Communication

One of the gals from the RHOK posted this on our Facebook page recently and I really had a chuckle over it.
Facebook has been way too fun for me.  It has made it too easy for me to share laughs with 800 of my closest friends over the past few years.  But are we really communicating with each other?

I have one friend who isn't allowed to be my Facebook friend because his wife has never met me.  I don't have a problem with that, but I find it odd since I never dated him and he lives 2000 miles away.  Either way, it works for them.  Or does it...
You see, the funny thing is that we talk to each other using Words With Friends.  This makes things complicated.
I wanted to tell my friend that I was having a fun girls trip to Vegas so I sent a message through our current game.  He had a little bit of trouble with it.

Since it has been 20 years or so since we hung out, it made sense that he didn't remember who my friend Leslie was.  Conversing by typing on my cell isn't my favorite so I tried to indicate that she was one of my best friends from high school by typing "bf."
You can see how that went over.

And then came the clarification and the AHA(!) moment.

I seriously recommend typing carefully.
This is how rumors get started.

And how was Vegas?
We didn't share a hooker, but we danced. And danced. And danced.
See our Ellen dance dare video?

Oh - and we hung out with the band and compared our matching boots, too.
Or maybe that was just me.
I just love musicians.

My name is Priss and I am a groupie.

Do you have any funny communication faux pas to share?

Save the Drama

With so much texting, Facebook and IMing going on these days, it is a little too easy to get offended by what others say.  I once took a communications class in STATE College
(no comments on "the" university please) which taught that a person could derive six different meanings out this six-word written sentence:

"Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart."

So here are the different meanings one could assume:

1. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah is usually frugal, and doesn't buy anything.)

2. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah bought a dress instead of stealing one?)

3. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah only bought a dress and not ten?)

4. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah bought a dress instead of shorts and flip flops?)

5. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart instead of online?)

6. Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart.
(Sarah bought a dress at Wal-Mart? Is it cute? Seriously?!)

Do you see how something so simple can become so confusing when you can't hear which words are being stressed?

I am not going to say this has never happened with me.  I have jumped to conclusions by reading into something that wasn't really implied at all.  People have done the same with things I have written.  For me, speaking out loud generally takes away most of the confusion. I said generally people.

You can never really know what is going on in someone else's head.  I can never convey to you exactly what I'm thinking.  It's impossible.  We all come from different backgrounds, lives, communities and look at the world in completely different ways. You may be blessed with a spouse or best friend who knows exactly where you're coming from, but it's not a common thing (in my experience).

So, the next time you read a text, Facebook comment, or IM that rubs you the wrong way, take a minute to try to figure out where the other person is coming from or if you are taking it out of context. If you still have questions, ask them directly
It might save a lot of drama.
Verses that might save you some drama:
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless James 1:26
Do you see a man who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for him  Proverbs 29:20
The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil Proverbs 15:28

The information in this post is provided “AS IS” with no warranties, and confers no rights.  It is solely my opinion. The use of the name "Sarah" was sort of random, however it does not represent any real person named "Sarah" that I may or may not know in real life or on Facebook. Feel free to challenge me, disagree with me, or tell me I’m completely nuts in the comments section of each blog entry, but I reserve the right to delete any comment for any reason whatsoever because that's how I roll. LOL.
