Patriotic Style the Crafty Way

With only 10 days until our country's 236th birthday, I thought it would be fun to give our readers a few ideas to get their crafty style poppin'! I personally like the RW&B year round, but these items will go an extra mile this year as we support Team USA in the 2012 Summer Olympics- I can't wait to see what the designers are pulling out for us there!

I made this shirt for my daughter last year courtesy of Make it and Love it! It has been a huge hit and she can still wear it this year!

Patriotic Beaded FlipFlops anyone?
Most of you know that I make these like crazy! What started out as a football fundraiser for my son, has now become a popular gift item, raffle item and just all around favorite among sport moms! A few of our RHOK readers have even received a pair at our RHOK Outs.

For a little patriotic style around the home, or even a hostess gift you could make a patriotic Wordle like this one to frame.

And finally I will show you what my daughter and I will be sporting this year for the 4th! I think I saw this idea on Pinterest, but never pinned it so I can't give it credit to anyone in particular. Besides at less that $8 for both shirts, the rick rack, ribbon and some Liquid Stitch that I already had on hand this was the easiest style maker ever!
(I'm still not 100% sure about the bow on mine though, but for one day I guess I can bow out.)

What will you we wearing and doing to get your Boom Boom Pow on?
Hope I gave you a few ideas, if you notice I didn't even touch on all the food.

For ALL the "Phenomenal Women" Out There....

As I draw closer to my "29th again" birthday this month, I can't help but think of the "Phenomenal Women" in my life that have made me who I am today. Those who share a bond of friendship, those who I help to shape their future, and especially my daughter who I pray always has self-confidence, faith and poise. This post is dedicated to all of the readers of The RHOK because you are absolutely phenomenal!

Phenomenal Woman
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

In Your Neck of The Woods- Teacher Appreciation Week

The RHOK

I just can't believe it. Teachers Appreciation Week. The first week of May already, and for those of you rushing around still thinking of ideas of what to get those incredible, hardworking, snot nose wiping, shoe tying, sock finding teachers, I am going to show you what my nest is sending to the two AMAZING teachers that teach my kiddos! Now keep in mind these are the incredible people that deal with your beautiful and wonderful children that you labored so hard to get into this world only to send off to school for 6-10 hours a day to enrich their mind and nurse their boo boos. It doesn't take a lot to say thank you. In fact my grand total was less than $20, I bought for two teachers and still had supplies left over for my family- yes, we are on a very tight budget around my house these days. Some schools have idea lists, I of course got one of my lists after I had bought all of my supplies so I am trying to match as closely as possible.  Some of my ideas were taken from the blog eighteen25 and 24/7 Moms. The templates can be found at the eighteen25 blog.

Monday
Scented Hand Sanitizer- who doesn't need to fight germs and smell good at the same time?

Tuesday
Personalized  Post-It Notes decorated by the kiddos w/ Sharpies included.

Wednesday
A bottle of A&W Rootbeer for the AW-esome teacher!

Thursday
A packet of Goldfish- who doesn't like a packet of Goldfish to snack on?

Friday
I had to show you both Wordles I made for their teachers, I included every students name and the teachers likes- yes it requires a little homework, but if you have a good PTA or are a bit sneaky you can get this information pretty easy! And of course I included chocolate to end the week!

Now this post is hitting on Tuesday morning- if any of you know my kids teachers or if the teachers themselves are reading this post, don't spoil the surprise for my kids. They are super excited to be giving these gifts each day, they helped glue, write, pick ribbon, colors, gather information and add all of their own special touches along the way! So, that's what is going on at my nest this week. What is going on In Your Neck of The Woods?

Wordle- It's A Frameable Art

I love word clouds, subway art or whatever you call it these days. I just thought it was the cutest and most personalized gift ever when one of my very close friends made one for my daughter on her 4th birthday. It contained my daughter's name, her likes, her fave foods, nicknames everything there was to know about my little princess at age 4!  Of course I am the type that when I find something I like I figure out how to do it and do it myself. And boy is this fun! Look at a few of the examples I have made so far...

What do you think? Do you like? Won't they be uber cute in a frame. I can't wait to give the very last one to my niece for her birthday in May. Oh, and I think I may just frame and give away the other two at our next RHOK Out as door prizes. Which stay tuned, because in a few short days we will be announcing a RHOK Out that will knock your socks off!

Now you are probably wanting to know my secret on how to make these wonderful pieces of art. Right? Well, I hope so. It's Wordle Logo. You can either type in your own words, type in a blog URL, or a del.icio.us user name and the cloud will form for you.  You can change it around, change colors, and change fonts. A few words to the wise though. When you hit print, its not going to print in an 8x10 format so my advice is download CutePDFWriter. When you hit print, it will give you the option to use your own printer or the CutePDFWriter. Select CutePDFWriter and save the document to your computer as a PDF. Then go in and print it as an 8x10 from your documents.

Now you know how to create something fun, personal and easy! You are guaranteed to be a RHOK star with this craft idea. It's up to you if you tell them how you did it or not! Just like the disclosures say on the Wordle Logo website, "You may take a Wordle, put it on your book cover, your t-shirt, your campaign poster, what have you. You may get rich off it. Keep in mind that if you save a Wordle to the public Gallery, then you can't control how other people use it. If you want to give credit to Wordle, feel free! But it's not required." Aren't they nice people? Now, what are you going to go create? Send us pictures...
