What do Weight Watchers and Vegas have in common?!

For those of you who have been following my weight loss/getting fit journey, I made my first big goal. Woot! I lost 20 pounds by July 5. I did it in 10 weeks with Weight Watchers.

I set the goal date of July 5th because on July 5th I, along with Priss, her husband and my husband, was leaving for Las Vegas! I wanted to look good for our trip, be in shape and have some new clothes to wear. It certainly feels good to accomplish this feat. No, I'm not finished. I'd really like to lose 20 more. I'll be happy with 10-15 more though. Plus, I'm hoping at that point I will no longer need my high blood pressure medication. THAT, in and of itself, will be such a reward.

Before I share a few pictures from our Vegas trip, I want to share 2 recipes. I found this grilled cabbage recipe on Pinterest - of course. It was delicious. (It can be baked in the oven as well.)  I paired it up with a grilled portobello mushroom stuffed with colored bell peppers and onion and topped with fresh mozzarella cheese.

The other recipe is a Crockpot recipe.

Crockpot Zesty Chicken

1 package of raw chicken tenderloins
1 package taco seasoning
1 package Ranch seasoning
1 can chicken broth

Combine the broth and seasonings; mix well.
Add the chicken.
Cook on high for 4 hours or low 5-6 hours.

After it's cooked, shred with a fork.
I served it on heated corn tortillas with sauteed onions and peppers. I topped it with a little fat free sour cream and cilantro.

Because the above recipe made quite a bit and I had made too many peppers and onions, I came up with another dish for the next night with the leftovers.

I used the above leftovers, added fresh onion and topped with Weight Watchers shredded Mexican Cheese. They were pretty darn good. They would have been really good with some black beans in them as well. I'm planning on making a lot of things with the Wonton Wrappers in the future.

Okay, now for a few Vegas pictures....

Priss and I deputized ourselves as fashion police. Here are a few questionable outfits. Vegas would not be Vegas without these types of sightings.

If you're a lady and you have back boobs. For the love of God, please cover them up.

And unless you are intending to get paid for your services, PLEASE don't wear these skimpy dresses and think everyone thinks you look hot in them. You really only look like a hooker (even if you have the body to wear one). I'd bet $100 these two were making a "deal."

It's always fun to dress like the hotel lounge.

NEVER go eat lunch in your bikini bottoms. Oh, wait! That's us. Hahaha!!
Senor Frogs is a fun place to eat.

This bride in the pleather black wedding dress totally thought she was bombing our picture.
We SO planned the picture just to get her in it. Yes, we are good like that. I'm just not sure that veil goes with the dress?! What do you think?

And, as tempted as you may be, it's probably a good idea to pass on these types of t-shirts. I made Priss put it back on the rack. Friends don't let friends dress ridiculous.

We had such a terrific time in Vegas. I'm already missing the fun, the food, obnoxious clothes  (not ours, of course) and the company.

Color = POW!

When I think of color, I think of the words “BAM” and “POW”! Can you tell that I have a 7YO boy under my roof? It’s all about super heroes, Transformers, and every other character that has magic and power.

But, in all seriousness, color IS powerful. It creates a confidence, it’s eye-catching, and can ‘stop traffic’! Wouldn’t you want to stop traffic? Well, in a good way!

Color is a great way to break out of ‘the norm’. We, especially women, have a tendency to fall into the world of neutrals, because it’s safe. It’s slimming and safe! (Yes, I wouldn’t have even had to say the word ‘safe’, because, as women, we only hear the word ‘slimming’.) There is nothing wrong with the neutral world – it’s a basic canvas of where we can infuse color.

If you are ‘new’ to color, this is a perfect time of year to try it, because color is EVERYWHERE. This spring season has exploded with varying shades of color from pretty pastels to the neon shades of the 80’s. So, pick your favorite shades and give it a try!

Just keep these few things in mind:

  1. Don’t go head to toe in color, or more, specific ONE color and/or varying shades of that color.
  2. You can go ‘all color’ by color blocking your outfit. Just make sure not to use more than 3 colors in your color blocking combination.
  3. Infuse color into your outfit/wardrobe where you are comfortable. Maybe, a dress in a bright color is too much. You could try a blouse, scarf, or a fabulous pair of shoes as a way to ease into the color world.
  4. Make a statement with color. Don’t be afraid to pick your brightest and boldest shade of your favorite color. Be confident and proud.
  5. Avoid being too ‘matchy-matchy’ with your accessories and your outfit. It’s okay to pull in the neutrals or balance one color with a complimentary color.
  6. Have fun! Color is a confidence builder. It is guaranteed to put a little extra spring in your step when you look in the mirror and even make that smile a little bit bigger.
I bought my first pair of colored denim – TURQUOISE! Can’t wait to wear them!

Tis’ the season for color! Enjoy!

Monday

Hey, Oscar. Entertain me?

The Oscars are usually something I look forward to every year.

This is year I could very well have fallen asleep. In fact I have already fallen asleep twice trying to write this post!!

I generally try and see all the movies nominated, too. But, that's a big 'ol NO too this year. The Artist? Isn't that a new movie about an old movie that barely has dialogue? Yet it won best picture and best actor? Whatev.

In light of these boring developments: I will just move straight to fashion. That's generally why I love to watch  the most anyway. I love when my favorite actor or movie wins- but it's even better when they do it in a great dress!

First up is Octavia Spencer.  I loved the WIN! I loved the silver. I loved the Help!

And staying with the Help, and Emma Stone (hello? Where was her nom?) I give you her in fuchsia.

I adore the flowy-ness and the bow on the side. Emma is one of my favorite new up & comers.

Next, let's talk an obvious WIN in a bad dress. Meryl is awesome, we all know this. But Meryl in 1980's gold lame? No thanks.

I also think that Michelle Williams and Viola Davis totally gave Meryl a run for her money in the acting department, but completely beat her out in the dress department. Viola was a vision in her green number- and Michelle was the lady to beat in red.
She is just as cute as she looks. Did y'all see her on Letterman? She is a doll.

Also, awesome in red was Natalie Portman. Just see for yourselves.

That's about it for my fashion low down. I don't generally add men in the mix, bc let's face it. A black tux is a black tux, is a black tux. Clooney looked great with Stacy, Brad- I really hate his hair long. There wasn't anyone else I really even noticed.

Please let us know what you thought were the highlights from the night!
