Fishy Pedicure Anyone?

I admit it I am usually a little, okay a lot behind on some fashion/style/body/makeup trends. Some things I end up doing, others I don't. The ones I do, it's because I can afford and are practical. If I like the end result I continue it. For example pedicures. The one thing I tried and will never do again is threading my eyebrows and mustache- or what they thought was a mustache, you know all those fine hairs around your lip area- I cried like a baby when they threaded those out at the local mall!

Now back to my pedicures. I love my pedi's. What housewife doesn't? But honestly, I could do one weekly not just for the sheer fact that I enjoy them- because I actually hate the massage chairs- but I love how my feet look after I get one done and after a week in flip flops they are all dry and beaten up again.

Now probably if I were a Bravo Housewife I would have already known about this particular beauty trend I'm about to tell you about. Especially since everything I have googled shows me its been around since about 2008, I'm just three years behind this time! But, the good thing about this is that its not too prominent in the United States.

Ever heard of a Fish Pedicure? Oh yeah.

The Garra rufa fish. It naturally occurs in the fresh water river basins of the Northern and Central Middle East, mainly in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. The fishes’ unique dietary habits were first discovered in the waters of a hot spring near Kangal in Turkey’s SivasProvince. Locals found that the fish would nibble away at bathers’ dead skin, easing symptoms of those suffering from skin conditions, leaving their skin softer and healthier. The hot spring’s water contains high levels of selenium, which helps heal wounds by protecting cells against free radicals. And guess what? This fish is now being used in pedicures and some massages!

So I guess you are wondering how I learned about this. I follow stalk Natalie Grant, the Christian singer/songwriter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and she shows her footsies in a spa bath amongst all these little pirahana looking fish. Kudos to you Natalie! Okay, okay they don't have sharp teeth, actually no teeth at all. And later on Facebook and Twitter she tells all of her stalkers that she is in England and that she just learned that there were some "some fishy feet eating places in the US, but most have been closed down due to health issues..." The reason for being closed down is that according to cosmetology laws all instruments have to be sterilized in between customer uses and unfortunately you can't sterilize the fishes'. What a shame.

"Doing something I NEVER thought I'd do. I'm letting fish eat my feet. My heels better be baby smooth..."
-Natalie Grant, June 2, 2011

So, would I try it? I don't know. You see when I was a little girl and even now I hate swimming in the lake. If I can't see what is beneath me biting at my toes then it freaks me out. Especially those little fish. Only if ALL of my fellow RHOK Stars were with me, airfare was paid for since I can't seem to locate a local salon, and the visit was paid for- oh and maybe a sedative or ten was given and a Route 44 Diet Coke from Sonic with extra ice! How about you, this inquiring housewife wants to know?
